CLASS OF 2024
STRAP KING BY VILDA RAY
‘Strap King’ contains NSFW illustrations and characterizations of everyday objects, animals and foods. Documenting a process of liberation and distraction, Vilda creates a series of seductions using a surplus of color and texture. You’re invited to get to know these characters and perhaps may even identify with some of them. Let this be a reminder that it is healthy and helpful to have a silly little sexual appetite.
About Ray
Vilda Ray is a queer songwriter and artist whose influences extend from her diverse heritage being raised in endless colors, waters, and sun. Evident in her work is her appreciation for humor and beauty. As an individual who craves liberation, she also encourages her audience to seek the same. Her belief is that shame hinders creativity, and looks to a world without it.
Cinematic Realism BY Onome Uyovbievbo
'Cinematic Realism', the first photobook by Onome Uyovbievbo, dives into a world hidden among the wonder and splendor of everyday life. Each of the photos featured within were photographed on film which was personally developed and processed by the author. Documenting life through a cinematic lens from San Bernardino to San Francisco, Onome captured the unrepeatable moments in life that often go unseen.
About Onome
Born and raised in the Inland Empire, now based in San Francisco, Onome Uyovbievbo (They/Them), is a cinematic photographer who has coined their unique approach to photography as, "Cinematic Realism," which combines the theatrics of music and cinema, infused with punchy, technicolor hues viewed through the lens of analog film which brings ordinary, everyday moments of life and elevates them to cinematic heights.
LAMB BY Haley Struwe
Haley Struwe's poetry debut is a fearlessly honest examination of the non place between ending and beginning, and an exploration of the brilliant, bottomless trench of being. At once a quiet introspection and a deep dive into the most uncomfortable corners of the psyche, LAMB serves as a tribute to yesterday, a warm embrace of the now, and an unshaken acceptance of whatever lies ahead.
About Haley
As a writer and photographer living in the heartland, my goal is to capture my life as I live it, so as not to forget the mundane, in-between moments. My work revolves around awareness, and it encourages one to take a moment to just be - to invite into one's heart the idea that everything is as it should be.
"The Art of 'To Taste'" BY KRISTEN LEE
Asian parents don’t always say, “I love you”, but my parents always made sure there was a warm meal ready for me come dinner time. Cooking is a very important love language in the Asian household, and I’m trying to learn how to be more fluent in it. This zine is a personal collection of my mom’s recipes that I don’t want to forget. Sik fan lah (Let’s eat)!
About Kristen
Kristen Lee is a Chinese American second generation immigrant, a gay musician, a science teacher, and a media artist based in Anaheim, CA. She lovesss food, having grown up in the San Gabriel Valley surrounded by an array of authentic Asian flavors (dumplings, dim sum, oh my!) and a boba shop on every corner. As an artist, Kristen is inspired by humans who are healing, carving their own path, and learning who they are. The Art of ‘To Taste' is her debut zine publication.
