TikTok is Shining a Light on Women in Hip-Hop With Its New #WomenInHipHop Campaign
IN HONOR OF WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH — TikTok has announced the launch of their #WomenInHipHop campaign, running from Feb. 22 to March 8, in alignment with both Black History Month and Women’s History Month. With the launch of this hashtag campaign, the app is celebrating all rap and hip-hop girlies by highlighting their music on the platform.
The app has become the foundation for many musical artists over recent years and is being utilized as a tool for newer, emerging female rap artists, as their music gets discovered and launched onto the charts. Newer artists such as Ice Spice, GloRilla, and Lola Brooke are big examples of how women are making use of TikTok to propel their music into viral hits. By introducing themselves to a wider audience on TikTok, such artists gain traction quickly.
TikTok has also partnered with MuchMusic in creating interviews with several artists such as Rico Nasty, who will be discussing Black history, culture, and music. Check out the interviews and much more on MuchMusic’s TikTok.
All women in rap are being encouraged to not only be viewers of the #WomenInHipHop campaign but to also participate in it by using the hashtag in aiding female rappers to pave the way in shifting rap culture.
