WHILE IT’S EASY FOR BANDS TO GET COMFORTABLE WITH THEIR MUSIC AND SETTLE ON A SOUND - Asiatica welcomes their evolving soundscape. Their latest single, “Watermelon Arizona”, breaks away from their previous releases and reflects the addition of a full band. Lead singer Asia Lacy shares, “I feel a lot of the times in the previous releases it was just me, while this one was more of a collaborative effort on everybody's part. That’s what makes it a little bit different, because it was everybody being represented in the music.”

With the collaboration from everybody, “Watermelon Arizona” gets to flourish in the sound waves per anyone that is daring to catch a good vibe. Lacy sheds some light on their creative process, “Brooke and I were at the computer and she did guitar, I did drums, Nigel did bass, Tay added his stuff to it, Steph put more synths on it, and I think we all just equally had our hands on the beat praying over it and that’s how it came to be.” This completely organic process allows them to all be on the same page musically, and each add their flavor to a track.

Their first day of making the track was deemed ultimately successful as they used all recordings from the first session, and even came up with the title the first day. “The name was a working title - I was drinking a Watermelon Arizona that day and they asked what the song name should be and it was “Watermelon Arizona”. We couldn’t get away from the name.” Lacy shares.  The name helps the richness of the song grow, as it helps create a vibe that the name cannot escape.

ASIATICA then decided to make the song come to life with a music video to accompany the track. The colors entrance the viewer to keep watching while the beat aligns with the camera shots to emphasize lyrical content as well. The group had a fun time filming the video and working with director Kitaro Cloward, Lacy shares, “The best part of filming it was definitely our director Kitaro and bringing together the vision I had for it. He was willing to listen and he executed it really well. Also, the scene where we are in the pink room was my favorite. It felt very superstarish.”

Having such a comfortable and open experience helped thrive the artistry in making the video. “I really enjoyed the whole vibe of the set, as soon as I got dressed it felt like I was in it, and we were just feeling it. It felt good to express myself that way.” Adds bassist Nigel Fregozo. Throughout the filming process the group got to create a very expressive version of themselves through the visuals that the video has to offer allowing for a genuine representation of their music.

With “Watermelon Arizona” out into the world and the video coming soon, there are definitely more things in the works for ASIATICA. “We can’t really say what we have going on just yet, but stay tuned - that’s all I am going to say.” adds drummer Chailatay. Wrapping the year up on a high note, we’re excited to see what 2022 has in store for the band.
