Spotlight: Ari Herstand Provides The Guide For Rising Artists with Fender's Playbook

WITH A PURE LOVE FOR MUSIC AND BRINGING OTHER MUSICIANS UP - artist Ari Herstand has teamed with Fender to create the Fender Artist Playbook for rising artists. Each year, Fender invests in the next generation of musicians through its artist development platform, Fender Next. This year’s Fender Next class is unlike any other, with many rising stars finding their footing through less traditional outlets of music discovery, like Blu DeTiger, Foushee, and Remi Wolf having their music discovered on TikTok. Watching these emerging stars in 2021, navigating his own career as a professional musician, and speaking with hundreds of industry insiders through his New Music Business podcast, Ari Herstand is sharing all the tips and tricks he’s learned over the years with fellow artists.

It’s no secret that the music industry is changing more than ever and has become an increasingly difficult landscape to navigate, especially as an up-and-coming artist. Between TikTok, accessible streaming platforms like Spotify and even cryptocurrency, there are so many factors shifting the industry, and Herstand is here to translate it all for artists. 

Herstand shares, “I’ve spent my whole career lifting up and supporting other musicians because when I started my career in Minneapolis and was playing shows, some of my favorite artists at the time were other local bands and I loved them passionately. One by one they started breaking up because they couldn’t figure out how to make it work or they were getting taken advantage of by people in the industry who were not the best fit for them….For one reason or another these incredible musicians who were creating life-changing music never got a real shot because they didn’t have the know-how or the resources, guidance or knowledge for it.”

Through this playbook, Herstand has created a step by step guide for artists to better understand this new landscape, and most importantly how to best build their career in the most effective way possible. The best part of this playbook is the extensive research and thought behind it - this is not a playbook filled with jargon or generic advice - but instead a thoughtful evaluation of the industry and genuine advice for action that can lead to success. 

With the simple intent to lift other artists up and give them the key they’ve been looking for, Hernstand continues to do what he can to strengthen the music community.  “I am always looking for ways to spread knowledge and support the music community. I don’t believe in competition in the new music business. I believe that a rising tide lifts all ships. If I know something, I want to share it.”
