Review: CityFox Live

The ability of a venue, the artists, and their audience to be able to make a massive, multi-stage festival feel as intimate as a small underground show is a hard pursuit to master. However, on March 5th, CityFox Live presented a multitude of DJ’s that continued to perpetuate the ideal of the safeness and connection that comes with techno music. 

Brooklyn’s most esteemed electronic venue, the Avant Gardner, hosted the night. 

The third installment of the electronic music festival featured acts from all across the globe; the multitude of artists came together to play at the Avant Gardner, Brooklyn’s most esteemed electronic venue. 

WhoMadeWho, a Copenhagen-based electronic trio, prepared the crowd for the rest of the evening with their signature pulsating, trance-like beats. With a packed audience, WhoMadeWho was a standout set of the evening, setting the tone for the rest of the night to come. Their dance tracks are unique to the band's style - with mesmerizing soundscapes, the electric influences of each track were apparent, with the trio have played all across the world. 

Bright lights complimented the hypotonic style of their beats creating an essence of traditional electronic beats, highlighted by nodes of jazz and funk, combination synthesizers generated a juxtaposition of sounds.

A personal favorite, Monolink consistently performs to impress. The German producer, songwriter, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist has made his imprint in Berlin, as well as clubs across the world. With chatter from the crowd all night, whispers of “When will Monolink be up?” and “I’m so excited for Monolink,” were everywhere. 

With a growth in sound, Monolink’s beats are classically electrifying. His set exemplified the classic house tunes that made him who he is, while incorporating soothing, trance-inducing vocals. 

KiNK has an essence of harder beats comparatively to the rest of the CityFox Live lineup. Mixing on stage in real-time, with analog controllers- the artist’s set was pulsating. The Bulgaria-born DJ has roots in many different styles, including house, techno, and jazz. 

KiNK’s set closed the night out, utilizing warped synthesizers, disco influences, and the crowd’s electric energy.
