Review: Alfie Templeman in Los Angeles

BRINGING OUT THE ENERGY WE’VE ALL BEEN CRAVING THESE DAYS - Alfie Templeman’s live show in Los Angeles was a night to be remembered. Headling a show at the iconic Roxy on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, the UK-based artist is finally able to play tracks from his latest mini album, Forever Isn’t Long Enough. The crowd was more than eager to groove to hits like “Everybody’s Gonna Love Somebody” and “Wait, I Lied”, and despite being masked up, you could tell they knew every lyric. Joined with openers Alix Page and Runner Runner, Alfie Templeman provided an evening that reminded attendees just how good it is to be back and finally here tracks they’ve been listening to for months.

As we walked along Sunset Boulevard prior to show, Templeman expressed his excitement to finally be playing these US shows and felt honored to be playing at one of LA’s most iconic venues, The Roxy. With just one more show after the Los Angeles stop, Templeman finds the end of this tour bittersweet, as he’s excited to see his family back home, but not necessarily go back to England’s cold weather.

We last talked to Templeman back in August of 2020 for our 13th Issue, and Templeman has kept a busy pace since then. Now 18, the rising artist has released a slew of singles and videos alongside his mini album, and has continued to hone in on his sound. Bringing a more classic rock edge to some of his tracks, Templeman’s live performance showcased both him and his band’s talent as musicians.

Kicking the night off with “Shady”, Templeman started the evening off with a charming and energetic flow. Fans danced through the setlist with an extra bit of excitement for tracks like “Obvious Guy”, “Happiness in Liquid Form”, “3D Feelings” and even 2018’s “Like An Animal”. Though limited, Templeman’s banter throughout the evening allowed the crowd to get a sense of his pure joy in playing these shows and being able to make his debut in the US.

Taking a short break for the holidays, Templeman will also embark on a Spring 2022 headline tour, including his biggest show to date at London’s O2 Shepherds Bush Empire. Though accomplishing so much already, it’s clear Templeman is only at the beginning of an incredibly bright career, and we’re looking forward to what comes next.
