INDIE DUO VANSIRE HAS BEEN CRAFTING THEIR DREAMY, GENRE-BLENDING SOUND FOR NEARLY A DECADE. From middle school jazz bandmates to a rising force in indie pop, the band is gearing up for the second leg of their 2025 North American Tour beginning next month. They also teased an upcoming EP, releasing singles  "Love You All The Same" and From Your Own Eyesover the past year.

One of their latest singles, "Love You All The Same,” is a perfect example of their evolution—melding intimate reflections on love with global perspectives. It’s a track for the people who make life worth living, even in the midst of uncertain times. They noted their previous sound inspirations, such as the hazy dream pop of Beach Fossils and Toro y Moi, continuing to evolve as they begin to incorporate new personal interests including folk, dubstep, and house music.

Vansire is excited to share more of the music they’ve been cooking up in the near future. We sat down with the band to chat about their journey, influences, and what’s next for them.

LUNA: How long have you guys been playing music together?

VANSIRE: We’ve been playing as Vansire for about 9 years. Technically we played in middle school jazz bands together when we were in sixth and seventh grade. I remember in sixth grade or seventh grade, someone was talking about Kony 2012, so that's how I date it. So I think it was 2013. Remember the Kony days? I remember being outside of middle school, and someone was like, “You got to watch this video, Kony 2012!”

LUNA: Tell me a little about the single you put out last April, Love You All The Same.” Can you tell me how that song came about?

VANSIRE: That started as a demo. A lot of the newer stuff on our last album, I sang from a lot of imagined perspectives. Historically, a lot of the Vansire stuff has dealt with missed connections, love, or tribulations. We're both in very happy relationships now, so that well has dried up in a good way. But I think in The Modern Western World,” I was doing more like imagined perspectives, and now it's kind of back to the original perspective. A song can be about loving someone and how much they mean to you, but framed against like global collapse. That song is a song for my partner. I think one of the lyrics is framed against a wildfire. It's about the people you love who make your life worth living.

LUNA: Do you guys have any plans of releasing more music?

VANSIRE: Yeah we do, a good sized EP is in the works. There will be a lot of new material and we’re very excited about that.

LUNA: I would love to know where you guys draw inspiration for your sound!

VANSIRE: We've been fans of Beach Fossils, Toro y Moi, and Washed Out. That was the inspiration for our earlier stuff. As we've grown, the influences have grown as well. We started listening to more folk music, dubstep, even hip hop. House music is great. Its tough as an artist to try to incorporate music because there is so much cool stuff, and it feels so different. Then you'll make something that lands somewhere between all the artists you listen to. People would say we have a defined sound, which I think is true, but it's less of a technically defined sound and more of a vibe we carry with us across various genres. Our last album had folk music and house music. We want to mix our interests that we have in, and then that makes it more fun when we return to our bread and butter of dream pop type stuff too.

LUNA: If you could describe your sound in one word, what would it be?

VANSIRE: A lot of our work is inspired by the region of the Midwest we're from, which is called the Driftless Region. It’s an area of the Midwest that never experienced glaciation, making it more hilly. I think the word “driftless” encapsulates the sound we try to conjure. I don't know what that means exactly, but if I had to choose one word it would be that.

LUNA: Who would you guys love to tag along with on a dream tour?

VANSIRE: Parcels would be cool. Toro y Moi and Washed out would be awesome as well. Maybe a Daft Punk Reunion.

LUNA: What else are you guys working on currently?

VANSIRE: We’re working on getting our ducks in a row for 2025 tours, sort of figuring out international and domestic stuff for that. We're also working on wrapping up our new release!
