COOL AND ALWAYS COLLECTED - Tangerine has given us another set of songs for the soundtrack of our lives. Luna featured the band, consisting of sisters Marika & Miro Justad as well as Tobias Kuhn in our May 2018 magazine and we are so excited for the White Dove EP to finally be out. Produced by Sanj & Luca Buccellati, the EP is "full of 80s guitar-laced indie pop songs about yearning, nostalgia, female friendship & the messiness of finding yourself in your 20s."

Tangerine continues to make songs to carry us through our lives and gives us something to dance like nobody is watching to. "Lake City" gives you something to sway to while thinking about that one that got away while "Cherry Red" gives you something to scream at the top of your lungs while driving along. Though the band has found their sound, they continue to experiment and evolve in order to give their fans the music they never knew they needed. Read more to get the band's input on their latest release & make sure to give White Dove a listen.

LUNA: How does this album compare to that of your previous music?

MIRO: Throughout the creation of White Dove we were easier and harder on ourselves in the process at the same time. We took our time and put lots of care into it while taking more leaps with the production and visuals. Sometimes we worried we were changing too much but that risk is what made it worth it.

TOBY: With this album we were able to take a lot more time to develop and record the songs, as well as changing them after the initial recordings. It was a big leap having synth play an integral role in our music. When we started the project we really wanted to convey a bigger, more expansive side of our music, and having more keys/synths involved was a big part of that.

LUNA: Did you have any common themes while writing for this album?

MARIKA: I'm learning to be more honest and vulnerable with my lyrics. I'm learning to talk about the things that scare me. I've been writing lyrics since I was a little girl but that's still something I have to work on because it's kind of terrifying haha.

LUNA: What's your favorite song off of the album? Why?

TOBY: My favorite song off the album is "Local Mall". The bones of the song came together very naturally, and the vibe feels like something we've wanted to nail down for a while and finally let ourselves indulge.

MARIKA: Maybe "Monster Of The Week". I can't hear Toby's guitar line in the first verse without wanting to dance.

MIRO: "Cherry Red" is my favorite because it makes me feel like I am in an 80s vampire movie.

LUNA: What has been your biggest takeaway/learning experience from making this record?

MIRO: Creating this EP felt risky and slightly out of our comfort zone - we let ourselves be as poppy and experimental as we wanted. We had so much fun referencing artists like George Michael, Aerosmith, Kate Bush, Phil Collins and more for influence.

TOBY: I think we've learned the importance of taking time with our songs - from extensively demoing to being able to spend a lot of time reflecting on how it was coming together in the studio, it was a great experience to not feel like we rushed through the process. Throughout the process we learned a lot about the subtleties of synth tones and allowing enough space within the track.

LUNA: Now that the EP is out, what's next for Tangerine?

TANGERINE: We are working on setting up a string of west coast dates and will probably release a couple of songs we've been working on around the beginning of next year!
