LUNA: Congratulations on your upcoming EP, Spiritual Puberty. Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the title of the EP?
MINDCHATTER: Spiritual Puberty is the stage of life where you start to really grow up and unlearn the parts of your past that hold you back.
LUNA: Spiritual Puberty seems like a deeply personal and introspective project. Can you share some insights into any experiences that influenced the music on this EP?
MINDCHATTER: Adulthood really hit me over the head recently as I’m nearing the end of my twenties. There’s a moment where I realized that no one really has life figured out regardless of their age. I think this feeling inspired a lot of the music.
LUNA: Your music is known for its unique blend of introspective lyrics and intricate production. How do you approach the creative process when crafting a song like “Growing Pains”?
MINDCHATTER: Most of the time I’m in the studio I’m not really making anything worthwhile but when the creativity strikes I try and get it all out in one sitting. It’s like fishing, a lot of patiently waiting around and then once you get a bite you have to have the skills to pull it in. For the lyrics, if there are tears involved when writing them, then you know it’s good.
LUNA: What set of lyrics are you most proud of from this project?
MINDCHATTER: I’m proud of how all the lyrics turned out on this one but “Phlegm” probably gets to me the most.
LUNA: How does this EP reflect your growth sonically?
MINDCHATTER: I’m a producer first and foremost so this EP is me pushing myself on the songwriting side, getting more personal and intimate than most of my other music.
LUNA: You've recently joined the Foreign Family Collective. How has this partnership influenced your music and the creation of 'Spiritual Puberty'?
MINDCHATTER: They’ve been really open to my ideas and have given me a lot of creative freedom. I made a lot of last minute changes to things that they helped me work out. Lovely folks over there.
LUNA: Your live performances are known for their unique visual components. How do you translate the themes and emotions of your music into your live shows?
MINDCHATTER: I work with some great artists that help bring the music to life, visually. There are a lot of common themes in my music like the human condition, consciousness, etc and the visuals solidify all those themes.
LUNA: What intentions do you have for this fall?
MINDCHATTER: I’m working on new music that’s a bit more dance floor focused and then I’m off on a big tour at the beginning of next year!
