FEW MUSICIANS HAVE STRUCK THE SAME MIX BETWEEN RAW VULNERABILITY AND POWERFUL SELF-EXPRESSION in the ever-changing world of contemporary R&B as Isadore. The Toronto-born and bred singer-songwriter has always used music as a compass to navigate life's intricacies with soul, elegance, and her sound's genuineness. Isadore's music, rooted in the illustrious R&B and soul traditions, has a profound emotional quality that speaks to the heart and gives listeners a space to think, feel, and heal.

Isadore’s journey through music began early, with a natural gravitation towards expressing her innermost thoughts through melodies and lyrics. Growing up in a city as diverse as Toronto, she was exposed to a wide array of musical influences, from the deep grooves of classic soul artists like Erykah Badu and Lauryn Hill to the contemporary energy of R&B’s new wave. These influences have shaped a sound that’s both timeless and fresh—reminiscent of the smoothness of the past while carrying the boldness of the present.

For Isadore, music isn’t just a creative outlet—it’s a form of therapy. With each track she releases, there’s a sense of emotional honesty that invites listeners to confront their own feelings. Her songs often explore the darker aspects of life, the fragility of relationships, and the internal struggles we all face in the quest for self-discovery. Yet, despite the weight of these themes, there’s always an underlying current of hope in her music. Isadore’s soft, soulful voice is like a warm embrace, comforting in its vulnerability but strong in its resolve.

Her latest single, “Hold Up”, marks an exciting new chapter in her career. It’s a shift from the introspective ballads that have come to define her sound, offering instead an anthem of independence and empowerment. Co-created with a talented producer, “Hold Up” blends R&B, pop, and hip-hop influences, creating a track that’s both infectious and liberating. The production is sleek and modern, with tight beats, deep bass, and sparkling arpeggiators that give the song an electronic edge. This sonic evolution reflects Isadore’s desire to push boundaries and experiment with new sounds, while still staying true to the emotional core of her music.

“Hold Up” is more than just a catchy summer track—it’s a bold declaration of personal freedom. The song’s confident verses and infectious hooks capture the essence of living life on your own terms. It’s a celebration of breaking free from the past and embracing the present with open arms. For Isadore, this new direction represents a lighter, more playful side of her artistry. The song’s upbeat tempo and feel-good energy are a departure from the more somber tones of her earlier work, but the message remains the same: empowerment, self-confidence, and the importance of taking control of your own narrative.

Despite this new sonic direction, Isadore’s music still carries the depth and emotional resonance that her fans have come to love. Her ability to blend introspection with empowerment is what makes “Hold Up” such a standout track—it’s both a reflection of where she’s been and a vision of where she’s headed. As the song’s beat pulses and the lyrics weave a tale of independence, it’s clear that Isadore is embracing a new chapter in her life, both personally and musically.

The release of “Hold Up” also signals Isadore’s growing presence in the R&B scene. She has quickly established herself as a relatable voice for listeners who are navigating the often overwhelming journey of self-discovery. Her music speaks to those who are searching for their place in the world, and with each release, she offers a new piece of her heart for her audience to connect with. As her sound evolves, so too does her ability to inspire and empower others.

In this moment of artistic growth, Isadore is more than just an emerging voice in the R&B genre—she’s a force to be reckoned with. Her music is not only a testament to her personal experiences but also a beacon for anyone seeking strength and clarity in the face of life’s challenges. As she continues to rise, there’s no doubt that Isadore will remain a powerful and relatable figure in the music industry, her voice guiding listeners through their own journeys of self-discovery.

Luna had the opportunity of sitting down with Isadore to discuss her latest single, “Hold Up”, and delve deeper into the themes of independence, empowerment, and artistic freedom that have come to define this new chapter of her career. Read the full interview below to hear more about her creative process, inspirations, and what’s next for this rising star.

LUNA: "Hold Up" is such a vibrant, empowering track. Can you share the inspiration behind the song and how it reflects this new chapter in your music?

ISADORE: I wanted to capture moments in my life where I experienced happiness. "Hold Up" isn't a reflection of all these moments, but moments where I'm out with my friends and we're just having fun and enjoying the night. I wanted to have something that considered those moments since I usually write about moments of solitude.

LUNA: Your previous work delves into themes like mental health and complex relationships. What made you decide to shift gears towards a lighter, more celebratory sound with "Hold Up"?

ISADORE: I wanted to shift towards something lighter. The decision came from a personal desire to celebrate growth and embrace a more carefree, empowered vibe. Sometimes, after processing and reflecting on deeper emotions, you reach a point where you want to just have fun and focus on joy. "Hold Up" represents that moment—of owning your independence, feeling good in your skin, and enjoying life, especially with friends. It’s a chance to balance introspection with celebration.

LUNA: How did growing up in Toronto influence your sound, particularly in blending R&B, pop, and hip-hop elements?

ISADORE: Toronto has played a huge role in shaping my music and creative process. The city's diversity, vibrant arts scene, and blend of cultures constantly inspire me. Toronto's mix of R&B, hip-hop, and Caribbean sounds has pushed me to explore different genres, creating a unique fusion in my music. The hustle mentality of the city also drives me to work harder and stay authentic, reflecting personal growth, relationships, and mental health in my lyrics. The energy and multiculturalism here fuel both my sound and storytelling, making my music relatable and distinct.

LUNA: The track captures the essence of carefree summer nights. What emotions or experiences were you hoping listeners would connect with while hearing "Hold Up"?

ISADORE: I want them to feel badass!

LUNA: You mentioned that "Hold Up" is an anthem of independence. How does this theme of personal freedom play a role in your life and your journey as an artist?

ISADORE: Independence has allowed me to take control of my narrative, make choices that reflect my true self, and create music that speaks authentically to my experiences. As an artist, personal freedom means not conforming to expectations or trends but staying true to my sound and vision. It also means setting boundaries and prioritizing my well-being, which empowers me to keep growing creatively.

LUNA: Your music often feels like therapy, addressing deep emotional experiences. How do you strike a balance between emotional storytelling and more upbeat, fun tracks like "Hold Up"?

ISADORE: The key is blending both personal reflection and confidence. While introspection might focus on the challenges and growth from inter- and intrapersonal relationships or mental health struggles, "Hold Up" channels the result of that inner work: empowerment and freedom. It’s about celebrating the point where self-awareness leads to independence and joy. There’s a deeper layer of emotional resilience and self-acceptance, turning personal experience into a bold, uplifting song.

LUNA: You’ve mentioned the track embodies living life on your own terms. What does that look like for you in your day-to-day life as both an artist and a person?

ISADORE: It means staying true to my vision and values in everything I do. As an artist, it looks like creating music that reflects my experiences, without feeling pressured to fit into a mold or follow industry trends. It’s about having creative control and trusting my instincts. In my day-to-day life, it means setting boundaries, making time for self-care, and surrounding myself with people who uplift me. It’s also about embracing flexibility, being open to growth, and enjoying the journey rather than chasing external validation.

LUNA: Working with a skilled producer to capture the spirit of summer must have been an exciting process. Can you talk about the collaboration behind the scenes and how the sound of "Hold Up" came to life?

ISADORE: Usually, my songwriting process includes creating a melody and then writing words to the melody. I write whatever the melody inspires. Then I'll find a producer, play the a cappella version, and tell them what I want. We'll work on creating a beat that fits the melody and the lyrics. The song was a lot more pop and up beat then what I usually do so I wanted something that matched the vibe.

LUNA: As someone who dives into introspection in your music, how do you see your sound and message evolving in the future? What’s next for Isadore after "Hold Up"?

ISADORE: I see my sound and message evolving by continuing to merge introspection with empowerment, exploring deeper layers of self-growth, love, and identity. While "Hold Up" celebrates freedom and independence, future music will dive even further into complex emotions, balancing fun, upbeat energy with more reflective moments. I want to explore new sonic territories. What's next after "Hold Up" is expanding my storytelling, possibly through an EP or collaborative projects, while continuing to grow my audience and push boundaries as an artist.

LUNA: What advice would you give to listeners who are still in the process of finding their own independence and self-confidence, the way you express so boldly in this single?

ISADORE:I would tell listeners that finding independence and self-confidence is a journey, not something that happens overnight. Be patient with yourself, and trust that every step forward, no matter how small, is progress. Surround yourself with people who uplift you and create space for self-reflection and growth. Don’t be afraid to set boundaries and put yourself first—that’s where true empowerment begins. Embrace the things that make you unique and don’t shy away from expressing them.
