DEBUTING WITH TRAILING TWELVE RECORDS — Annie Schultz introduces us to their enthralling sound in the new single, “Patterns.”

The Washington-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist set the tone, conveying an intimate space that documents the challenge of being there for others when it’s occasionally tricky to show up for yourself.

“‘Patterns’ is a song that I wrote about navigating relationships while in a depressive episode,” they say about the track. “My songs often subconsciously end up being letters to myself, observing shifting dynamics with the people I love and posing questions about why I choose to make certain decisions.”

Schultz’s stirring vocals float over serene guitar strums as their poignant words stick as they sing, “Good intentions made her cry / Love runs thin / He thought he really tried.”

Enrolled at Evergreen State College, the singer recorded with classmates in an audio production program. Working together, they merged reverb vocals with acoustic and electric chords to create a beautiful yet haunting atmosphere that hints at inspirations such as The Cure and Joy Division. Through moody production, Schultz highlights the discovery of their distinct sound.

“Patterns” is focused and stunning in minimal production, allowing space for visceral connection as the singer-songwriter's angelic vocals carry you on this introspective journey.
