PREMIERE: The High Curbs announce new album THC with new single “Breathe In”
THE HIGH CURBS LEFT 2023 ON A HIGH NOTE — releasing punched up singles “Drift,” “Nothing Left,” and collaborations with King Shelter and Mexican Slum Rats, indicating that 2024 has much more to offer. Today, they release their newest single “Breathe In” and announce their fourth album, THC, out on May 24, 2024.
The High Curbs (Ed Moreno, Aaron Korbe, Alberto Alvarenga, Kenny Huerta, and Taylor Hecocks) started the year with the garage punk track “Couldn’t Hold Back a Smile” in February. Their second single “Breathe In” is enough to kickstart summer three months early with its bright cords and love-driven chorus.
“[‘Breathe In’] is about a time of being with that special person, you know? I was camping last year and I was like, it’s super good to just be with your partner and not worry about anything else. Hanging out without a worry. It feels like you work your 9-5 just for that moment,” Moreno says.
The music video, directed by Joel Villegas Saldaña, features two teenagers running around sun-soaked Downey on motorbikes, capturing the longing that can be found on any given High Curbs song.
Moreno admittedly says these singles are the more “accessible” ones off the album. After dispatching from their thrashier sound with their late 2023 singles, the band is ready to start fresh with a new batch of music. After “a lot of waiting around” and “[sitting] on records for three years,” The High Curbs are in a space where they can create and share their music as soon as they can.
“The reason why we wanted to name it THC is because I almost wanted to revamp it as a ‘new band.’ It feels like a clean slate. To me, it feels like a self-titled record. It should’ve been our debut record,” Moreno says.
The High Curbs are set to headline their own festival, Happy Daps 2, alongside Ultra Q, Israel’s Arcade, Chokecherry, and more on April 6 at The Observatory in Santa Ana.
