Now Listening: This Week's Tracks

honeywhip - “like ice”

Comforting and cheery, honeywhip's latest single “Like Ice” is a song to remember. The message of the song is beautifully optimistic and hopeful, revolving around the process of moving through pain and past trauma through community and ritual, and finding new reasons to live. The message is undoubtedly one that resonates with most, especially in a time like this, riddled with fear and uncertainty.

honeywhip first started making music in Tokyo, and are now based in Los Angeles. Their stunning new track “Like Ice” follows the release of other tunes such as “Feels Good To Laugh” and “so obvious.”

JAWNY - “Sabotage”

Rising star JAWNY releases new single, “Sabotage,” a funk rock indie song that you’ll immediately add to your playlists. The Los Angeles based singer/songwriter has an upcoming project, For Abby, that’ll be released later this year and if we observe the previous hits he’s made like “Honeypie,” this project will be one to be excited for. “Sabotage” showcases the unique personality that's projected into JAWNY’s music, full of life and energy. The song starts off with a phone call like voice recording and a small piano melody before transitioning into guitar tunes and JAWNY’s hyper vocals singing about romantic destruction in a self aware humorous way that he made a song about it.  JAWNY’s music is like a treat on a special day and that’s why each song he releases gets mass love.

I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME - “Leave Me Alone”

Dallon Weekes’ new project I DON’T KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME (iDKHOW) releases their new single, “Leave Me Alone,” a song that makes us feel like he’s teasing us on his new debut album, Razzmatazz, coming out on October 16. Giving us funk and David-Bowie-like bass lines, “Leave Me Alone” combines chaotic goodness with swift and happy rhythm. Weekes spirited vocals sing, “Now I want you to leave me alone,” something that's found to be said a lot in toxic situations, Weekes mentions. You’ll either want to dance your heart out to this song or scream it into the void, there’s no in between but you’ll feel a lot better after listening and a lot more excited to see what iDKHOW has for us.

Denuo - “Helen, No”

A dreamy indie-pop single from Denuo aka Welsh multi-instrumentalist Tom Mason, “Helen, No” conjures up a vivid imagery through its beautiful lyrics and heavenly vocals. Inspired by synth-heavy bands such as Phoenix and Mew, in addition to the sound of the indie scene in Japan, “Helen, No” manages to be playful and striking at the same time. The track's lyrics focus on the bittersweet feeling of infatuation and denial within a relationship that is ultimately doomed to fail.

Produced by Russ Hayes and with featuring vocals from Sophie Ballamy of fellow North Wales band Kidsmoke, the track undoubtedly expands the boundaries of Mason's music. With a new album coming up soon, it is certain that Mason is only growing bigger every day.
