Luna Luna - “Early Morning”

Luna Luna is here with their latest single, “Early Mornings.” Having been based in Dallas, Texas, members Kavvi, Daniel Bonilla, Kaylin Martinez, and Ryan "Gordo" Gordon all came together to create the band Luna Luna. Writing songs that they consider “sweetheart jams,” they are set to release their newest EP, Flower Moon, on August 13th. “Early Morning,” is a synth-pop that pairs a funky and psychedelic bass with a dizzying and electrifying synth. At its core, “Early Morning,” is about the desire to physically be with someone wholly, with that lust and longing being turned into the soundscape that encapsulates the track. 

The Greeting Committee - “Float Away”

Lead singer Addie Sartino spares no feelings on The Greeting Committee’s latest release “Float Away”. A short song that is direct in the most gentle way, it’s atmospheric and raw. The percussion on the track is addictive and adds another layer to its indie-pop dreamlike quality. “Float Away” feels like floating with Sartino’s ethereal and elongated vocals. Unmatched lyricism comes with the nostalgically coated line “Lost in my head / Haven't felt this since / Listening to the 1975 while getting high”. If there was ever a lyric to take you back to your former life as a Tumblr alt teen, it would be this. The clever part is that the song in general has a reminiscence to “Lostmyhead” by The 1975, they’re equally melancholic and immersive as they recall losing control and feeling estranged from yourself.

The accompanying video for “Float Away” is a sweet animation. It captures the vulnerability and loss that the lyrics point to. The track ends bittersweetly as the outro encapsulates the idea of falling, but not the good type. “Float Away” is an exciting precursor to the band’s second album, Dandelion, out on September 24.

No Vacation - “waltzing back”

No Vacation isn’t a stranger to covers - in fact, when it comes to covering the band The Cranberries, No Vacation has them down pat. Back in 2018/2019, the band recorded their version of the Cranberries’ iconic album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can't We?, as part of Turntable Kitchen's Sounds Delicious series. “Waltzing Back” was often performed by the band as part of their core touring set, but fans were eager for a digital version. Only being first released on vinyl, fans soon got their wish. “Waltzing Back” is more than just a cover, however. No Vacation adds their own unique and iconic sound to the track, changing its tempo from 3/4 to 4/4 - proving their ranks not only as musicians, but as masters of their craft. 

Lost Club - “Alone”

Indie-pop artist Nicholas Garcia, also known as Lost Club, is back with a new release, “Alone”, taken from his upcoming sophomore EP. Exploring emotions attached to temperamental relationships, the latest single has a jangly and upbeat melody that follows a tumultuous and open-ended relationship. The epic guitar solo that runs through the bridge, as well as the song’s instrumentation, has a likeness to Garcia's own influences: The Strokes and Graveyard Club. Garcia’s voice is light and simultaneously controlled as he recalls the difficulty between him and his love interest.  The Florida multi-instrumentalist showcases his musical talent on the track and it feels both playful and honest. 

Mila Degray - “Skinny Brittle Bones”

Mila Degray has stumbled upon vulnerability in her new single, “Skinny Brittle Bones.” Being open and honest with another person about your feelings can be a tricky task to get around because, in one instant, what you are holding inside for this person sparks emotions that are catching ahold of you for the first time and you don’t know how to communicate them, in the correct way. Yet, the major factor in being vulnerable is seeing how that person responds to what you have to tell them. Waiting for their response can haunt us - even in that moment. Mila does a great job in describing these beginning emotions of love and how feeling like surrendering yourself, completely, can make you not know what else to do. “Skinny Brittle Bones” is an alt-rock anthem of how beginnings can leave us helpless, but, in the end, how we feel for someone triumphs over our fear. 

Cehryl - “outside the party, inside the dream (a maddie jay Remix) (Remix by Maddie Jay )"

“outside the party, inside the dream (a maddie jay Remix)” is a song remixed to “listen to while cooking comfort food or driving in the evening or leaving your lover’s house or painting your toenails,” according to maddie jay. The original track is a piece of acoustic bliss by indie artist cehryl from her April release, time machine. While already a comforting song about intimacy and longing, maddie jay’s remix accentuates the song’s best qualities by developing an ethereal bedroom pop atmosphere. The song is layered with spacey production that is characteristic of maddie jay’s playful and lovable work. Without compromising the very essence of cehryl’s original track, the remix is more of an homage to her sweet breathy tone and beautifully evocative lyricism - just with a soft and synthetic twist.  

honeywhip - “georgia peach (sketch)”

“Struggling with depression and feelings of isolation, making music is where we feel connected. When we feel the most alive,” states the L.A.-based duo, Honeywhip. A breath of vibrant and bubbly indie-pop fresh air, their latest single achieves their stated goal with easygoing energy that is sure to leave you spellbound. “Georgia Peach (Sketch)” is a paradisial track with a soothing bassline-driven groove, breezy guitars, and the airy vocal delivery truly make the song feel “so soft like a Georgia peach” as sung by the duo. The perfect companion during hazy summer days, their latest single is “about that elusive magical moment when things click and for a moment you truly feel at home”. Honeywhip’s growing discography is packed with charming tracks that are sure to create a warm and dreamy space, or rather “home”, wherever you are.
