The Sunset Beach Hut - “twenty//25\five”
After a full year of not releasing any music, The Sunset Beach Hut returns with their latest single, twenty//25\five. The song features a groovy, sparkling beat with vocals that radiate a sort of effortless cool. For the band, the idea behind the song is that since the dawn of time, dancing (not just in the clubs, but in your room alone) has been a freeing form a self-expression. They state, “That’s what [the song] is all about- feeling so trapped in a situation to the extent where you feel like you’re always doing the wrong thing. In these situations, it feels impossible to leave. In these situations, sometimes the best thing to do is to just let go.” With twenty//25\5, The Sunset Beach Hut has created an indie pop song that makes its way into your heart and mind while still inspiring you to get on your dancing shoes.
Kieza - “All of the Feelings”
Kieza is back and we’re ready! The multi-hyphenate singer/songwriter has been praised as “ecclective” (Billboard) and the new “electro pop maven” (The Fader). Her newest track, “All of the Feelings”, features her signature powerhouse vocals mixed with lyrics that describe the deepest and most intimate feelings of longing for someone, while still questioning how they can be so irresistible. The accompanying music video, which PAPER magazine has described as “larger-than-life” was made in collaboration with Kieza’s new independent collective, Zebra Spirit Tribe. It features Kieza and her friends, in all of their nostalgic glory, covered in neon lights, in a limousine that was allegedly found on craigslist. There’s a genuine bond between them all that gives off all of the adoration put into the making of this record.
DREAMERS - “Heat Seeker”
A taste of psychedelic electropop, the band DREAMERS returns with their new single, “Heat Seeker”. The cover art for the single features a figure ascending to a new astral plane, which basically sets the tone for the record. The frontman’s voice is accompanied by a plethora of electronic-noises and a kickin’ bass guitar. The song itself, as described by the band, is about “being lost and searching through life, searching for a better way, searching for the truth, searching for a higher meaning and a good time.”
Peach Pit - Black Licorice
Peach Pit’s sound resembles the feeling of a sunny summer day, lounging about with friends or driving in the sun, wind blowing in your face. They definitely create an atmosphere in their music, letting listeners take their own interpretations of their songs in their own lives. The Vancouver quartet released “Black Licorice,” their third and final single leading up to their upcoming album, “You and Your Friends.” The new single touches on feeling like a burden on your friends or being left behind with the chorus singing, “I'm just black licorice and all the people that I know would rather leave me in the bowl.” Although the song represents a feeling of loneliness, listening to the song brings comfort, knowing that it's okay to feel like that, and we know you’ll enjoy listening even if it's with a friend or alone.
BOYO - “Backseat Driver”
A song that moves smoothly all around, you’ll listen and then want to listen again, thinking it ended too soon. “Backseat Driver,” brings light into the feeling of someone wanting to control your life, but doing it from the backseat as you drive. Knowing how to make something like that into a song, but still putting in that melancholic feeling into the sound is something only BOYO can do. With an upcoming album, Where Have All My Friends Gone?, to be expected in May, we advise to keep yourself up to date with BOYO or introduce yourself to his music, full of feeling and full of unique sounds, you won’t be disappointed.
