Now Listening: This Week's Tracks
sam woods - “typical”
sam woods brings his signature groove and flow with his latest track “typical”. Smooth production highlighting synths and a strong guitar flow combine with his endearing vocals for a melody and track that’s sure to get stuck in your head. Woods notes, “‘Typical’ is an attempt at capturing the vicious cycle that is overthinking. Am I saying the right thing? Am I wearing the right thing? Am I doing the right thing? Maybe I should just put down my phone.” Part of his new debut EP, sam woods explores the themes of anxiety, insecurity and relationships in a sonically charming way.
spill tab - “name”
LA-based artist spill tab dropped her new 4-track EP, Oatmilk - and you’re gonna wanna listen. One of the tracks, “Name,” is the song form of a sweet and slow realization. “Name” touches on about Clair Chicha (spill tab) feeling insecure and confused about their partner and putting the blame of her problems on him. She sings, “I would rather try and dry off in a hurricane than be the one to give you back your first name,” touching on the way that in a relationship, whether platonic or romantic, nicknames are made and when it’s over you have to go back to talking about them in their first name. Although the lyrics are perfectly written and capture a lot of what many of us have felt during a relationship, all of it is balanced with a bittersweet upbeat melody that makes you want to dance. The rest of her EP embodies a lot of that feeling with beats so good you have to vibe out to the song first before thinking about it too much. She’s one to keep an ear out for.
Neil Frances x Poolside - “I’m In Love With You
Neil Frances comes out with a new single, “I’m In Love With You,” alongside Poolside. “I’m In Love With You,” hones that sweet and dreamy melody that’s found in all of Neil Frances’ work. It’s out of the box for both of them but they made it something unique and special. You can definitely hear both of their sounds combined in this song. Poolside with more of that upbeat and thrilling sound and Frances with the more electronic yet dreamy sound. The song came from thinking about the difference between child’s love and man’s love. Neil Frances doesn’t disappoint with capturing feelings through sound. In this single, it’s the way he repeats “i’m in love with you,” and the melody behind it creating that fluttering feeling you experience when you’re with the person you love. Listen to the new single, “I’m In Love With You,” maybe send it to your crush or add it to a playlist your partner will hear.
Pastel - “Caramel”
A sweet track from his new album Cereal, "Caramel” provides the listen with a sultry and smooth ambiance. Bringing in elements of pop and some jazzy, the instrumental flow and feel of “Caramel” effortlessly layer with Pastel’s soft vocals. “Caramel” feels a bit like you’re floating on a cloud or even drifting as sea, but all in the most elegant way possible. Complete with a catchy riff and a chorus you’ll pick up by the end of the song “Caramel” is sure to find a soft spot in your heart (and playlist!).
