Now Listening: This Week's Tracks
YOUR ANGEL - “Misbehave”
Lush and ethereal, YOUR ANGEL’s new single, “Misbehave,” creates an atmosphere of softness and tenderness. The track is filled with elements that build up inside of you as you listen along. You really get to feel all of it through the instrumentals and the lyrics create a sense of comfort for you. “I wrote ‘Misbehave’ when I met my now boyfriend of 2 years,” she says. “It’s about wanting to throw all of my boundaries out of the window and move super fast with him because I felt like I had known him for my whole life.” “Misbehave” is a song to scream to, a song to cry to, a song to sit with.
yllwblly - “Take More”
Born out of the boredom and monotony of early pandemic life, “Take More” by yllwblly paints a lush picture of life in confinement. It is a melodic meditation on loneliness, longing, and routine. The sleepy vocals don’t overpower the beautifully rich instrumental, allowing you to be transported into the daydreamy state that inspired the song. The harmonic melodies wash over you and instantly calm you– escapism in its purest form. While simple, the lyrics are introspective and poetic creating a beautiful balance of intimacy with and distance from the artist. It feels as though you’re hovering over yllwbllys bedroom observing them dig this song out of their soul. “Take More,” is a testament to the power of simplicity. Yllwblly’s second LP I Want To Open comes out in the summer of 2023 and we’re excited for more from this talented artist.
Low Lying Sun - “Low Lying Sun”
It’s not often that a band can point to a single song title to sum up their journey, but Low Lying Sun have done just that. The latest single from the four piece group is actually the first song they ever wrote together. It’s the foundation for the sound they want to convey to their audience. Within the first second of the track we’re welcomed with comforting vocals of the lead singer and quickly brought into the world of Low Lying Sun. The alternative folky melody is supported by a driving acoustic guitar and soft, swelling synth pads. No moment of the track is too overwhelming and the instrumentation creates a refreshing indie feel. The band has succeeded in creating a track that sounds big yet comfortable. A perfect accompaniment for lengthy journaling sessions or meandering walks through hometowns. . “Low Lying Sun” brings about an air of introspection and prompts you to take a second, listen, and get lost in their world.
Mike Baretz - “Elevator”
Mike Baretz is quickly on his way to becoming a rising indie star. His latest track “Elevator” utilizes hypnotic 90s inspired beats mixed with lo-fi elements as the groundwork of the track. Baretz quickly expands on this dreamy foundation with a revolving finger picking guitar melody. The track expands and contracts with different layers of production. Shimmering synths lay on the top while guitar harmonies play in and out of the chorus with ease. While most people probably wouldn’t be able to romanticize the experience of riding in an elevator, Baretz does so with ease. There’s something new to pick up on with every listen adding to the magic of this ethereal indie track.
India Thieriot - “Montage”
Independent singer-songwriter India Thieriot brings us her newly released latest track “Montage,” as an intimate tribute to her first year living in the Big Apple. A groovy and personal reflection of memories created throughout the past year as Theriot embraces the incoming year ahead, “Montage” is a thoughtful yet dreamy homage to her youth. India recalls one particular moment while driving over the Williamsburg Bridge in a convertible with her two best friends in awe of the city lights and electric energy, a moment she recounts as making the “mental highlight reel.” This upbeat indie/bed-pop tune is an edgy and romantic breath of air, drawing on themes of loneliness, longing and treasured nostalgia. The rising 23-year old musician matches R&B and soul sensibilities with her mature vocal finesse throughout her discography exploring the journey of coming-of-age.
