SHE HAS A STYLE LIKE NO OTHER - and you know her work from a mile away. Photographer Carianne Older has created a strong brand for herself and work by simply tapping into what she loves, and never looking back. Though photography started as a hobby for Older, she quickly dove deeper and deeper, and found a supportive following online. As she began to take her photography more seriously, Older discovered it was time to go all in. She currently resides in Los Angeles pursuing photographer full time, constantly giving her viewers dreamy content. We've had the pleasure of working with Older before and couldn't think of a better creative to have as our first Luna Sweetheart. Read on to hear more about Older's transition to LA, how she found her style and more.

LUNA: You’ve worked in NY, Florida and now you’re in LA. What ultimately lead to you moving to LA? What’s been the biggest difference so far?

OLDER: I've truly ran around the country, LA is by far my favorite place I've lived. When I visited back in 2017, I realized it was time to leave the East Coast and finally head out west. it took me two years to get here - but I finally made it and I'm thriving!

LUNA: How did you find your artistic style? How would you describe your aesthetic that you’ve tastefully created for your work?

OLDER: Honestly...I'm not sure. I think it all stems from the fact that Im a pretty creative person in general. I grew up doing musical theatre, I really thought I was going to be a singer when I grew up. Once I grew out of that, I took a few mega corporate jobs and they were amazing till I got burnt out and almost craved something creative. That's the point at which I purchased my first camera. I'd describe my style as dreamy & girly, sexy but tasteful.

LUNA: What photo are you most proud of?

OLDER: SO MANY DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE! Right now, still obsessing over my shoot with Sarah Ritter, my best friend and collaborator, where she's standing in the front yard holding a hose while wearing a gown. It's epic. She's epic.

LUNA: Favorite story behind a photo?

OLDER: My bestfriend Miranda Harrison and I had this funny cowgirl idea to use these candy guns up somewhere in the hills. We ended up driving around, chasing the light until we found a spot that it shined perfectly against. We finally found a spot on this windy road that cars were FLYING around but we were like ehh, screw it were gonna shoot right here. We had a lady in a convertible tell us not to cross the street so slow but thats about it. We had a blast and took some of my favorite photos ever together. I love it when shoots aren't planned at all and just come together in the moment. That's truly when magic is made.

LUNA: What’s your favorite aspect of film compared to digital?

OLDER: The fact it's film! I don't shoot digital..don't own a digital camera. Soooo, yeah, film is my life.

LUNA: You’re often shooting lovely ladies highlighting their beauty. How do you get your models comfortable with you + the camera?

OLDER: I luck out! Honestly my bestfriends and clients are AMAZING beautiful confident beings. Also being a woman photographer definitely makes it easier for the girls to be much more confident and comfortable around me.

LUNA: If you could give one piece of advice for young woman starting out in photography, what would it be?

OLDER: Put down that iPhone and buy a cheap point n shoot film camera off eBay or the thrift store and go ham! Shoot your friends, or the sky, whatever you see through your lens.  LUNA: What feeling would you want people to feel when seeing your photos?

OLDER: Nostalgia. I want my photos to teleport the viewer back to a time - whether it be the 70s, 80s, 2000s, doesn't matter to me. I just don't want my work to represent this current time, and I know it doesn't....and I love that.
