Timothy Vickers, known by his recording name Grandbankss, is a producer and solo artist for Text Me Records, a man well over six feet tall and an experimental Bossa Nova music maker. In 2018 he released the five-song EP “Slo-Pitch,” which he made while waiting for other artists to attend their studio sessions with him. Yes, it was during these interim lulls that Grandbankss shifted gears from producing for others to producing for himself.
This isn’t unusual for Grandbankss though; he is constantly producing hundreds of tracks at Different Fur Studios—the home of the indie label. In fact, he’s made so many beats that now he often looks around the recording studio for objects to name his tracks after.
Grandbankss grew up playing the double bass and went on to study music at San Francisco State. As a producer Grandbankss has worked with emerging artists such as MVCK, Elujay, Ace Diego, Odie and DerekTed. “Slo-Pitch” and the single “Ownership” mark Grandbankss’ emergence from producer to solo artist. Though Grandsbankss will continue to act as a producer for other artists, Bossa Nova fans are hopeful that he will continue to release more solo work.
