Joey Miceli Drops Anxious New Single “Worry” off Forthcoming LP ‘The Standard Portrait’

WEARING HIS HEART ON HIS SLEEVE — Joey Miceli wants to feel the open embrace of love as pictured in his craft as an artist. Influenced by greats such as David Bowie and Stevie Nicks, Miceli strives to take comfort in remaining himself. This also entails that he rides through the highs and lows, the euphoria and the tidal wave of heartbreak accompanying love. Ahead of his forthcoming LP, The Standard Portrait, which drops on March 10, Miceli releases “Worry,” a punchy synth-pop exploration of uncertain love.
Produced by frequent collaborator Santino Cardinale, the track’s drum-heavy groove oozes an aura of anxiety that only romance can match, heightened by guitar licks and ghostly vocal chops laced in the background. Miceli’s pained harmonies are enhanced by instrumentation as he vents in a therapeutic sense of reflection. With butterflies in his stomach, “Worry” finds the singer questioning his worthiness in his relationship. His nervousness is palpable, especially when he sings, “Are you scared for me, that I’m bound to think of a dream for us / All it took was once, it’s a tragedy / That I believe, I am just a friend in your eyes, again.”
“This is where things are going too well and you start to believe they are keeping truths from you,” Miceli explains on the track’s emotional context. “‘Am I enough for this person I think the world of? Can I truly fulfill them?’ Classic embodiment of anxiety.”
Carrying a lifetime of trials and tribulations in his mind, Miceli finds beauty in the struggle of empowering his spirit through music.
